Energy Efficiency Projects at RECC

New fluorescent fixtures were installed in two warehouse areas,
replacing 200-watt incandescent lights that can still be seen here.
The result is a more uniform lighting level, with less
maintenance needed for changing bulbs. And of course,
they use a lot less energy!

New double-pane windows were installed in all the offices,
reducing heat loss and eliminating the need for storm windows.
As a bonus, the windows canalso be opened for fresh air on
mild days!

Cellulose insulation was added in the attic of the older
section of the office building, increasing the R-value and
decreasing the amount of heat needed to keep the offices
comfortable.

A total of 18 vertical loops of plastic pipe were installed in
the co-op's front yard, to supply four geothermal heating/
cooling units in te offices.

The plastic piping is heat-fused at all connections to
assure a sealed system that will last for more than 50
years. A water solution is pumped through the loops to
carry heat into thebuilding in the winter, and out of the
building during the summer.

Two 6-ton geothermal units
heat and cool the original
section of the building. The
fans and coils are located
inside each unit.

The newer section of the building uses two split-system
units, where the air handler fan is installed in the ceilings
of the offices.
