Energy Efficiency Projects
RECC has made several improvements at our headquarters in Auburn in the past few years to increase our own energy efficiency. We've converted the fluorescent tube lighting fixtures in our offices to electronic ballasts, and just finished changing the last 200-watt incandescent bulbs in our warehouse to fluorescent fixtures thatgive more light while using less than a third of the electricity.
The biggest improvement we made was the installation of four geothermal heating/cooling units in 2006, replacing a mixtute of baseboard heaters and rooftop furnaces and air conditioners. By using energy from below gound, we cut our use of electricity year-round while also getting better comfort and reliability.
New windows were installed in the offices, with double pane construction and a low-e coting to reduce heat transfer. We also removed an old electric boiler system for one part of the warehouse, and installed two electric unit heaters on programmable thermostats to put heat where and when we need it.
